The Theatre Review ~ West Side Story

The Vancouver opera brings forth a musical?! I went with an open-mind. Which worked out! Directed by Ken Cazan (which is amazing), as he worked with Leonard Bernstein, and choreographed by Tracey Flye, who is ‘officially certified’ to teach the original Robbins choreography. VO was definitely ready to prove something with this show.

The women were phenomenal blowing the male performers out the water. Having said that Tony’s voice was incredible BUT his dancing was rather painful. Even him running around the stage during “Somewhere” was cringe-worthy. Anita was by far the best on the stage - I have never cried as much in a theatre as I did when Anita and Maria sang “A Girl Like That/ I have a Love”.

Overall it was a gorgeous performance with the usual amazing Vancouver opera set. Tony, Maria and Anita were just awe-inspiring. Basically a WONDERFUL night!
