CAT!

Who doesn’t remember Audrey Hepburn running down an alley in the pouring rain calling for “Cat” in Breakfast at Tiffany’s?

I'm like cat here, a no-name slob. We belong to nobody, and nobody belongs to us. We don't even belong to each other ... He's all right! Aren't you, cat? Poor cat! Poor slob! Poor slob without a name! The way I see it I haven't got the right to give him one. We don't belong to each other. We just took up one day by the river. I don't want to own anything until I find a place where me and things go together. I'm not sure where that is but I know what it is like. It's like Tiffany's ... I'm just CRAZY about Tiffany's!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

ThePoshGurl has been madly in love with this film for far too many years. It caused me to buy a cat four years ago... or should I say Rescue from Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA). She wasn’t exactly the same as the famous CAT, but she is my cat and for that reason I am celebrating her today on her fourth birthday. 25 June 2007 she was born and I officially adopted her on the 18th August 2007. Life (and my furniture) has not been the same since!!

Luna- Bellatrix (or more commonly known as Lulabella)

HAPPY FOURTH BIRTHDAY!

OK, so you are now wondering about the name... right?!

HARRY POTTER!! I always wanted to call my first pet Tonks, Nymphadora Tonks BUT the name just didn’t suit Luna. She had huge eyes and was really curious... and a little weird... much like Luna Lovegood. So I named her Luna.

But then came the second name...

After a few months this cute little kitten became a naughty menace, and my Mum said “She should have been called Bellatrix Lestrange not Luna”... and so Luna-Bellatrix was officially named!

Since then... we have been inseparable, and life would not be normal without her.

Me and My Rascal

FOREVER LOVE

Style in the Store ~ Saturday 25th June 2011

Today was armed forces day in the UK and the Duchess was once again the Best Dressed at the event in Alexander McQueen.

Thanks to whatkatewore.com I can tell you she was wearing:

Navy Prada Pumps, Kiki McDonough Citrine Drop Earrings and carrying an Anya Hindmarch Marano Clutch.

Also a new jewelry piece was on her arm... a single link bracelet with a charm suspended on it engraved with her official seal!

The gold three-leaf shamrock brooch adorning her jacket was originally belonging to the Queen Mother! She is officially in Royal Jewels as it were!! And doesn't she suit them!!

Shopping Trip!

Today I went to Holt Renfrew, Banana Republic and of course Mavi for a shopping spectacular with my sister.

First was Holt Renfrew where I tried on probably a million Rebecca Taylor dresses and Nanette Laporre blouses. A Manolo Blahnik pair of flats and a pair of Tory Burch pumps later and I left with a single top!

A double tank designed by Splendid.

My sister did bring me a little present from one of my favourite shops in Morgan’s Crossing... Muse. She bought me a black Tuxedo top.

It is called a Tuxedo top because of the back hem with is cut into a tail style (as you can see from the picture)!

I also went to my staple shop Banana Republic. Here I bought a grey short-sleeve cardigan which is tapered in at the middle and flares out at the bottom.

I absolutely adore this and what made it better... 40% off!!

Finally I bought a pair of Denim Shorts.

These are known as Vanna, a “longer” short, cuffed at the bottom and Mid-Rise. There is a little bleaching but I chose a dark wash.

Although I really wish I had brought the Manolo’s but the price of them would literally mean a couple of nights in a nice hotel in Paris during Fashion Week SO I think I did VERY well.

Good choices! What do you think?!

Style in the Store ~ Friday 24th June 2011

I don’t know what my obsession is but... it’s a big one! This morning I woke up and was in the shower, then when I got out I looked at a magazine as I was drying my hair. There was the Duchess in jeans, a long necklace and a shirt... without even trying I was leaving the house in jeans, long necklace and a shirt.

Obsession... becoming too much?!

The Book Review: The Chapel at the Edge of the World

The third Book Review is on...

“THE CHAPEL AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD”

By Kirsten McKenzie

This novel follows the story of two childhood lovers torn apart by WW2. Emilio finds himself a Prisoner of War on the Orkney islands where the only thing to do is create a magnificent chapel. Rosa remains in Italy in a small town outside Milan running a hotel with her mother. She finds herself in love with a man by the name of Pietro who drags her into the world of the resistance. And as Rosa and her Mother fight to keep the Nazi’s staying at the hotel unaware of their ‘illegal’ activities Rosa finds herself questioning everything she has ever known... including Emilio.

This novel was a real page-turner. It begins in the present day as Emilio and Rosa visit the Chapel on the Orkney Islands at the anniversary of the war. There they meet with another POW and together the three of them relive their stories by telling them to a BBC journalist who is there to document the event.

The story is solid, as are the characters and descriptions. However, McKenzie’s writing style is very choppy and you find yourself re-reading paragraphs just to grab the gist of what is happening... this can take you out of the story which is sad. But as you head towards the end you CANNOT put the book down.

This is another book to escape everyday life and be swept off your feet!

The Book Review: The Villa Triste

The second Book Review is on...

“THE VILLA TRISTE” by Lucretia Grindle

This novel twists the past with the present following Detective Alessandro Pallioti as he investigates the murders of two Partisians following a sixtieth anniversary of the war. In the apartment of one of the murder victims is a red book, a diary written by a young nurse who finds herself swept up in the resistance.

Intertwining the voice within the diary and Pallioti investigation the real, and very tragic journey of this Florentine Partisian crew comes to light ... and is finally put to rest.

But whose side will you be on... the murderer or the victims??

This story was completely gripping, heartbreaking and had me in MAJOR tears the ENTIRE way through. The view of Italy is incredible and the writing is flawless. An amazing read!!

You will be swept off your feet and into the story.

Celebrity Style Guru: Candidate 7

Once again she is thrilling my Summer Evening Fashion Appetite as another season of “So You Think You Can Dance” takes to the screen.

CAT DEELEY

is our Celebrity Fashion Guru Candidate 7

Born 23 Octorber 1976, Catherine Elizabeth Deeley she changed her name after signing a modeling contract under her nickname of Cat to make it easier for clients to re-book her.

Cat was 14 when she entered a regional edition of a BBC competition for The Clothes Show in which she reached the national finals before being signed by Storm Modeling Agency.

Cat was 14 when she entered a regional edition of a BBC competition for The Clothes Show in which she reached the national finals before being signed by Storm Modeling Agency.

After working from 1998-2002 as a co-host of children’s series SMTV Live with Ant and Dec (I used to watch her religiously week-after-week)! She then moved onto my old favourite TV show Stars in Their Eyes and Fame Academy from 2004-2006.

That is when she became a fashion icon facing the new and FABULOUS show “So You Think You Can Dance” in 2006 till present! Whilst being the face of Pantene in the UK!

From 2001 to 2006, she was married to advertising executive Mark Whelan. But, found true love marrying actor Jack Huston in 2007. She gave birth to her first daughter, Emma, in August 2008.

On being scrutinized in fashion magazines:

I have a stylist who brings things in for me, but it comes down to what mood I’m in. Sometimes I have days when I feel I can wear anything and others when I just want jeans and a T-shirt. I love net-a-porter.com because I can get all my British fashion designers such as Christopher Bailey, for Burberry, and Matthew Williamson delivered to my door in LA. If people say they don’t like what I’m wearing in magazines, that’s fair enough. I really don’t care.

“It would be a duller place without my ridiculous outfits once a week.”

On her worst outfit:

“When I was 14, I had a pair of maternity dungarees that I wore with an acid-print top with a perm and a monobrow. That will put you off your dinner tonight.”

As for her flawless 5ft11 figure:

“I try to do yoga three times a week and eat healthily - although nothing is off limits and I drink lots of water.”

On styling herself:

“Yeah, totally. People either love it or hate it, but they have an opinion about it. Nobody has turned around and gone, “Oh no. Can you do that instead?” or, “Can you say this in this way?” I think they all think that I’m this bonkers English eccentric, and they like seeing what I’m going to do or say or wear next.”

On her most expensive outfit:

“An Alexander McQueen couture dress. It’s the first piece of couture I’ve ever bought. I got it four months ago in New York. There are only two in the world. It’s exquisitely beautiful and has a huge train. It looks like it’s made out of tea-stained tulle. It’s gorgeous and I cried like a big loser when I saw it. I don’t know where, or if, I’ll ever wear it. I’ve worn it in my bathroom and put Pavarotti on the stereo and twirled around but that’s it.”

[how much it cost]

“I’m not telling you that! You could have bought a car for what it cost though. Not a fabulous car, maybe a Mini Metro with a bit of rust on it.”

On her most daring outfit:

“There are all different ones. For the finale of So You Think You Can Dance I wore a backless-Gucci-minidress- beaded-sequinned-leopard-print affair, which doesn’t sound too good but was actually really beautiful”
