The Style...

What is the Key to Good Dressing?

“'... simplicity, grooming and good taste - the three fundamentals of fashion - cannot be bought. But they can be learnt, by rich and poor alike." Christian Dior

I need to start today, editing my wardrobe. Looking through my closet, there is visually a lot to minimize. Clothes that are not elegant, things that haven’t been touched in years, clothes that are too big or small... lots of shoes needing repair. So where do I begin?

  • Analyze my wardrobe. Do I have my basics?
  • Do I have the right accessories?
  • Do I commit any fashion faux-pas in my collection ?
  1. Old, faded clothing: They should go.
  2. Tears, holes and stains in the clothing: Repair and remove.
  3. Scuffed Shoes. Usually I would say throw them out, but maybe there is something your cobbler can do.
  1. Clothes which are not ironed. Buy Clothes that need no ironing!
  2. Clothes of ridiculous fashion.
  3. Grubby looking bags that needs to be washed, repaired and most likely thrown out.
  4. Fake designer goods.

Redefining my wardrobe: THROW OUT: -

  1. Clothes beyond repair
  2. Clothes that are too big or small, or do not fit properly
  3. Clothes no longer in fashion
  4. Clothes that you don't wear anymore because they are too long or short
  5. Clothes with holes
  6. Clothes that are faded
  7. Clothes that have rips in them
  8. Clothes that clearly have been washed too often
  9. Clothes with unremovable stains
  10. Cheap looking clothes
  11. Scuffed shoes
  12. Bags that have lost their shape
  13. Bags that are beyond repair
  14. Fabric bags whose fabric looks dirty and are beyond the wash
  15. Hats, accessories that have gone out of style
  16. Costume jewelry that looks dull and fake

But... clearing out is only the beginning. One of the main things I want for ThePoshGurl in the new ‘lifestyle’ is a suitable style that reflects herself (with the hint of icons)!! So HOW??

BASICS are the most important thing so -- How to know if you do not have enough of the Everyday Basics?

  1. Do you take too long to get dressed?
  2. Do you have a hard time finding something to go with tops or bottoms?
  3. Do you always feel a slight tinge of embarrassment when you open the door of your house, or when you have chance meeting with your friend?
  4. Do you feel grubby? Or too casual?
  • Everyday basics should be clothes that can be worn like a uniform and throughout the year. Your Everyday basics depends on your lifestyle.

Clothes must aspire to a lifestyle, and this is what I need to focus on!!

The Hoarding Cut-Down

I must admit I am addicted to “Hoarding: Buried Alive”. I watch the marathons and will recommend it to everyone!! But, I have to say that sometimes there is an innate fear of “Am I a Hoarder?” Clothes, shoes, bags, stationary, and books... I am a shopaholic. Packing up all my stuff I look at the boxes, I try to throw things out and sometimes feel I can’t... so... Am I a Hoarder?! I know I am not THAT BAD, but I definitely don’t want to create a room of clutter in my new space. So, I need a step by step plan!!

Most people who know ThePoshGurl will say I am anal when it comes to planning, but when it comes to acting out those plans I have a confession to make... she is not very good at holding to those plans and becoming lazy! But, at 25 and wanting... pleading with myself to avoid this hoarding problem (that probably doesn’t exist but whatever) so this move will be the DRASTIC turnaround!!

Moving Inspiration

Moving is like a cleansing of the soul. There is something that makes you feel like you want to change your life. Start afresh. These last few weeks I have been obsessing with this whole feeling and I just want to begin!

I spend my time planning, listing, prepping and dreaming about everything for this new world. I am moving into this beautiful area where working out is going to be in the open air, and a quiet place where studying, writing and reading will be the focus.

The new room is being planned with precision, a light breeze of white and purple.

The style will be elegant and back to my home roots where jodhpurs and riding boots were the in.

Pulling from my favorite style icons.

THEN, fitness: posture, and toning are my main aim. Using the figures of some icons as my inspiration:

Go Green and use my bike! Like...

I am going to be away from the hectic world of the city and I am going to use it to refocus on my faith pulling inspiration from:

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Things I wanna do...

1) Learn the harp

2) Ride again

3) Tap again

4) Get better with my savings

5) Plan the most amazing Europe Trip for 2012 EVER!

Finally... music of the moment...

Celebrity Style Guru: Candidate 10

Arguably the most important icon in fashion is today our celebrity fashion guru number 10...

Grace Kelly

Princess consort of Monaco, or Her Serene Highness The Princess Grace was born, Grace Patricia Kelly on November 12th 1929. At the age of 20 Grace headed into the acting world appearing in New York City theatrical productions as well as more that forty episodes of live drama productions until October 193 with the release of her first feature film Mogambo and with that she became a STAR with a golden globe and academy award nominations following in 1954. It was in 1956 that Grace Kelly married Rainier the third and became affirmed as official royalty.

Grace Kelly is renowned because of her timeless style, which has influenced many recent stars, including my personal fashion heroine Kate Middleton. In 1955, Grace Kelly was on top of the Best-Dressed list. She was surprised when she heard about it. According to Grace herself, she remained faithful to her favorite dresses and wore them for a long time.

”If there is one thing that is foreign to me it is shopping for pleasure. On the other hand, I believe that it is right to honor all those who create beautiful things and give satisfaction to those who see me wearing them.”

Grace Kelly was the client of the best couturiers of her time: Marc Bohan at Dior, Coco Chanel, Cristobal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy. Her love for Hermes bags, her Cartier diadems and her turbans, had made these fashion items legendary.

In 1956, a photo of Grace Kelly, carrying the Sac à dépêches bag by Hermes to shield her pregnant stomach from the prying eyes of the paparazzi. Photographs of her covering her stomach bulge with her hallowed Hermès were splashed all over the world and made it onto the cover of Life magazine. Thus, the company renamed it the Kelly bag, and it became hugely popular.

"Grace Kelly" is a song written and performed by British Pop Star Mika. It is titled after Princess Grace and features dialogue from her film The Country Girl. Mika claims the song was inspired after a bad experience with a record company executive, in which he was told to be more like singer Craig David!!

So it is more than just fashion, and movie Grace Kelly has power over and for good reason. Not only was she talented and beautiful she was also known for her loving and caring nature, her amazing mothering and her charities. An icon inside and out. I know I “wanna be like Grace Kelly...”!! ... Sorry had to do it!

The Book Review ~ Bride of New France

The Ninth Book Review is on...

BRIDE OF THE NEW FRANCE by Suzanne Desrochers

“Bride of the new France” by Suzanne Desrochers takes a truthful delve into the ugly side of Canada in its primal form. Following the life of Laure, who the reader cannot help but love. Her innocent naivete as she searches for justice in a ruthless Paris and for that is banished to the cold north to fulfill her “duty” as a woman in the new France.

The picture Desrochers paint is fearful, it is gritty, it is bitter and it is STUNNING. There is something in her writing that is enveloping. You devour the words however hideous and obscene the picture she paints. But, it is not just the descriptions the characters, even the tiniest role that appear really quickly are so full. You remember their names, their characteristics and the parts they play because each one is so uniquely created!

But this isn’t just an adventure to the Great White North it is a story of forbidden love between savage and French Woman. Their love is raw and innocent, and the story of their love will leave you with tears streaming down your face.
