The Book Review ~ Death comes to Pemberley

Completed: - 23rd February 2012

Rating: - 5/5

“Death comes to Pemberley” by P.D James

BEST BOOK EVER!!

P.D James is an absolutely brilliant! This book really rocked my socks. I couldn’t put the book down.

Be warned once you start you are never going to stop until the book is done.

I have read a few Austen wannabes and none come close. James encompasses Austens voice and tone.

She makes the characters alive and real again.

What really made the novel fantastic was the way James incorparated “Emma” AND “Persuasion using them to tie up loose ends thicken the plot!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book!

READ IT!

Cosmetic Animal Testing Resumes

“The One Who Does Not Remember History is Bound to Live Through It Again”

George Santayana

I was saddened and sickened today when I read a friends post on facebook and hear that civilization has taken a step back. It appears to break into the Chinese market various cosmetic companies are once again testing on animals. This is both BARBARIC and INHUMANE. What is worse is some of these companies pride themselves on being “green” and “good for the planet” which is now utter BULLPooPoo! It is disgusting that to appease a country these companies are stepping back on their MORALS. What is this all coming too??

So please find below a link to the original article: -

http://www.30bananasaday.com/forum/topics/major-cosmetic-companies-resume-animal-testing

AND a list of the cosmetic companies now testing on animals. I will be boycotting every SINGLE one and I urge you to do so too. I will blog soon on what I find to replace these products!

Avon. Mary Kay. Estee Lauder. MAC. Clinique. Sean John. Michael Kors. Missoni. La Mer. Darphin. Tom Ford. Prescriptives. Bobbi Brown. American Beauty. Coach. Lab Series Skincare for Men. Donna Karen. Flirt! Ojon. Origins. AVEDA. GoodSkin Labs. Smashbox. Tommy Hilfiger. Jo Malone. Grassroots Research Labs. Ermenegildo Zegna. Kiton. Aramis. Bumble and Bumble.

Do we really need to step back in order to “look good”. I thought we were passed all this. What is next... using orca skins and oils to make lipstick??

THIS IS WRONG.... HELP PUT A STOP TO COSMETIC ANIMAL TESTING... AGAIN.

The Book Review ~ Solar

Completed: - 17th February 2012

Rating: - 2/5

“Solar” by Ian McEwan.

Not Ian McEwan’s finest piece of work. The first part of the novel is really funny.

The humour is very British and it made me giggle... as did the first part of part two... BUT that was where it ended.

It was a slippery slope downhill from then on. The rest of part two was boring and part three was crap!!

I could have done with not reading it but... oh well. My recommendation is to read half of the book and then throw the other half out!!

Emotional Clean-Up

What is it with this months magazines and their “Detox” articles. This months Flare has an article on emotional detox which immediately caught my eye. I always thought that the cleansing of the wardrobe and room was the best medicine for cleansing the brain but, I rather enjoyed reading Flare’s suggestions. I even want to try this myself and begin Emotionally Detoxing.

STEP ONE ~ POWER DOWN THE SCREEN

Tech time is apparently chewing up our comtemplative time. I know I am completely hooked on my iphone and laptop, facebook and twitter, TV and internet. Thearticle suggests reading or knitting or even talking with friends.

STEP TWO ~ RELEASE AND FORGIVE

I can instantly recall events that are still zooming around in the back of my head that I just cannot let go of. The friend who after nine years of friendship abandoned me because I made a mistake by posting a drunken photo of her on facebook for which I took down when I became sober and apologized profusely for weeks for. I am so angry and betrayed I still find it hard to let go and definetly cannot forgive... at the moment anyway. PLUS the High School teacher who in the middle of career class decided to humiliate me by telling me I was a born failure who was destined for nothing. SOOOOO... Gabrielle Bernstein suggests mentally servering all mental ties with the bad memories and moving on. I think this detox is one that is going to take a little longer than their suggested 7 days.

STEP THREE ~ MEDITATE

I love to light a candle, put on orca’s singing and lay down. Sometimes I read passages from my bible. That is my meditation but I have to admit that happens few and far between.... when I meditate I usually get into a ‘tizzy’ so I avoid thinking too much! Apparently though the more you practice the more those voices quiet and the easier it becomes to meditate. So I am willing to give it another go.

STEP FOUR ~ SHUT THAT MEAN GIRL THE HELL UP

Ignoring the inner voices are difficult especially as you are in a fluctuating weight situation. Therefore, apparently you need to talk back... hmmmm....

STEP FIVE ~ GET YOUR ASS OFF THE COUCH

For me NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! My couch is WAAAYYY too comfortable! hehehehehe!!

STEP SIX ~ EXPRESS GRATITUDE

I take the hint from Kate Spade-- Thank you Cards are the BEST THING EVER! Despite following the Queen Guru Kate Spade there is also a study that emphasises the positive effects of saying the “thank you” words. According to the “Harvard Mental Health Letter” that expressing gratitude resultings in positive emotions, greater satisfaction from good experiences, and improved health.

p.s. Chapters now sells Kate Spade stationary!!

STEP SIX ~ STOP OVER-THINKING

K I am a Virgo and so this is NOT going to happen but, for you readers Stop Thinking the Worst and Start Assuming the Best! This apparently is the ultimate key to a lighter living!
